Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteer work in the community. His first family is that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised within Eufala through Lucious Selmon. Two football. He is among three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the US. Lee Roy won two championships, and the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. A third scholarship saw him named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree as an educator. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering in his college days. He settled down in Tampa after graduation, and was a member of the Buccaneers for nine seasons and made three times all-pro. His career in business began. He began his career in 1988. was working as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 youths from the United States. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as a player, captained his team for the year 1975. In 1993 he joined at the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
